Do you take insurance?

Ocean Pediatric Feeding is an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. Many families are still able to receive partial reimbursement by submitting a Superbill (a detailed receipt) to their insurance company.

It’s important to know that every insurance plan is different. You are responsible for contacting your insurance company to find out if feeding therapy services are eligible for reimbursement under your plan.

To make this easier, I’ve included a list of helpful questions to ask your insurance company:
When calling your insurance, ask:

  1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for speech therapy?

  2. Is the CPT code 92523 (feeding evaluation) and 92507 (feeding therapy) covered under my plan?

  3. Do I need a referral or authorization to submit for reimbursement?

Here’s what most families can expect:

  • Many clients receive 70–80% reimbursement, but this depends on your specific plan and carrier.

  • The cost of an initial feeding evaluation is $450–$500, and weekly therapy sessions are $165–$175.

  • Virtual parent coaching is not eligible for insurance reimbursement, since it does not involve direct therapy with the child.

In-person feeding therapy is not in our budget, do you offer other support?

We understand out of pocket costs are difficult on families and we strive to provide support that fits every budget. We currently provide a wide range of supports on the Resources page which include recorded workshops, digital downloads and more. We also offer one-time consultation calls for $125 for parents looking for a direction forward/expert advise about their child’s eating. As well as our Mealtime Transformation Plan, a 3-week, high support virtual coaching plan for $499. You can find more information about this program on our Parent Coaching Page.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, credit/debit cards (3.15% +.30/transaction card fee), and HSA/FSA.

What does a feeding therapist do?

Skilled feeding therapists examine the underlying cause of the feeding problem (e.g., sensory, motor, behavioral, medical etc,) and determine a comprehensive treatment plan based on those findings. The therapist will demonstrate evidence-based therapy approaches during sessions and provide parent/caregiver training to improve the child’s feeding. Family members are expected to be active participants in feeding therapy in order to promote progress.

What exactly is ‘feeding therapy’?

Skilled feeding therapy is a hands-on, individualized and comprehensive treatment of feeding difficulties in order to achieve the family’s goals (e.g., smoother mealtimes, decreased refusal behaviors, increased diet repertoire, improved chewing etc.). Skilled feeding intervention can result in positive long-term outcomes for your child’s relationship with food, their growth and reduce family stress related to feeding difficulties.

How long does feeding therapy take before we’ll see results?

Each child is different and it often depends on the severity of issue and the underlying reason for it. Progress is faster when the family is actively involved in the process and implements the therapist’s recommendations consistently. Many cases require collaboration with other disciplines such as pediatricians, dietitians, GI professionals, behavioral analysts or occupational therapists to address the issue from a holistic approach.

Where do you provide in-home/community services?

We currently provide in-person services, either in the home or in the community (e.g., daycare, school etc.), in Northern Ocean County and Southern Monmouth County. If you live outside this radius, we provide Parent Coaching services via Zoom. Please see the Parent Coaching page for more information.
